Giveaway and Q&A with Devyn Dawson

I'm so happy to be able to feature two fellow authors here in such a short period of time!

It may be a little while before I post the next featured author, being that I'm now working on Academy of the Fallen 2: Nephilim and getting ready to release Blood Bound (ISS #4) this October, but hopefully I can have at least one featured author a month. :)

Enough about me...

Today's featured author is Devyn Dawson, and may I just say... I LOVE the book cover for 'The Legacy of Kilkenny'!

Q&A with Devyn Dawson

Check out the giveaway info at the end of this post! :)

Tell us a little about your latest or upcoming release.
The Legacy of Kilkenny is the tale of 16 year old Abel, an average high school boy starting his junior year. Pru the new girl in school posing as a student, fulfilling her assignment to train Abel for his destiny. You’ll be privy to both characters POV giving you the opportunity to understand the way they think. Pru is a werewolf as well as a shaman; her family has been hoping to find the Great Wolf that werewolf lore has talked about for hundreds of years. As a shaman she had a vision that the wolf was born and his name is Abel Casey. The story is about friendship, love, devotion, betrayal and perseverance.

When did you first know that you wanted to be a writer?

There never was a time I didn’t want to write, my problem was life getting in the way.

What inspired you to write your first book
?
In 2009 I realized life is too short to not follow your heart and do what makes you happy.

If you could bring one of your characters to life, who would it be and why?

Oh, the girl in me would bring Oakley to life one hundred times over. He is not only eye candy but he is tough, caring, funny, loyal and everything a good man should be.

What books have most influenced your life most?
When I was younger I loved a good horror story. Stephen King was who I wanted to be for many years, until I heard of a writer named J.K.Rowling and met Harry Potter. I loved it when I saw how her books brought to life another world and made my kids share a love of reading with me.

If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?
I have to say that Stephenie Meyer awakened my desire to write and to bring Abel and Pru to life.

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
I’m a minimalist with words; I don’t want to over describe a scene. I forget that I have to show the reader what is alive in my head.

What is your favorite quote from one of your books?
I tried my hardest not to sound snarky, but sometimes snarky is called for, this was one of those times….when a were has to entertain a vampire.

What stories can your readers look forward to from you in the future?

I plan on three more books in the Legacy series. I’m working on the second book right now and have outlined the third book. I haven’t come up with the fourth book but I’m sure there will be one. I’ve decided to do a novella about Allie, she is so much fun to write. I’ve had several fans ask about her story. I’m also in the process of writing a tween book (middle grade), a ghost story of sorts for girls. It is about a girl trying to help her friend with cancer fulfill her final wish, in the process there is an encounter with a ghost.

Do you write a blog?
As a matter of fact, I do have a blog. www.devyn-dawson.blogspot.com.
I have also started a vlog on my youtube channel that I will offer giveaways on. I actually prefer vlogging over blogging just because I think you can get a better idea of who I am and my expressions for my characters. I will write captions on the vlog that are random facts about the book or myself.

What is a random fact about Devyn Dawson?
Devyn is not my real name. It is my pen name. My real name is Stefanie. I decided to use a pen name because of Stephenie Meyer - I figured young adult already has a Stefanie so why confuse people (especially when we both write about werewolves and vampires). I needed my own identity.
